Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Sandra asks…

A tarot question please help?

I did a Celtic Cross using a rider waite tarot pack asking for a general reading about my love life. The card I got in the outcome position was the two of cups. Does this suggest a relationship in the future and if so how long before i meet this person and have a relationship? Thanks

TarotTrumps answers:

Well, this is a good card if you love another and want a long relationship together with them. It also indicates some reconciliation so if you two have been at odds, those times are coming to an end. So congratulations, if you want a long term relationship with someone you love, you got it. Whether that is good or bad is not for us to know right now.

I hope everything works out well.

Blessed Be

New Tarot deck advice?

I was thinking about getting the ‘Gilded Tarot‘ deck because I REALLY like the artwork. In your opinion, how accurate is it?
Is there any deck that you would really recommend?
Except the ‘Rider-Waite Tarot deck’ or ‘Universal Tarot‘ by De Angelis Roberto as I already have those two.
I would really like a ‘specialist’ deck rather than another one based on the Rider Waite deck, like the Gilded Tarot or something.

TarotTrumps answers:

I have read tarot for years and i had the problem of half trained people coming to me for readings and trying to figure it out by themselves and having different interpretations on the cards. I stopped this by getting an egyptian deck,no one knows what the cards are. It took a while to get to know the deck but it speaks beautifully to me. The pictures are really only there to distract the client, and to open up the part of the brain that is curios. I find clients are totally bedazzled by the graphics of my cards even tough they are almost abstract. I am sure you will find a deck soon that will suit you, but try to get over what it looks like, be more inclined to find one that feels right. Its not the pictures that are accurate. Itsthe user. Have fun and keep exploring.

I live in North Kolkata. I want to buy Tarot Deck urgently. Can anyone please tell me from where to buy Rider Waite Tarot Deck in Kolkata?

TarotTrumps answers:

If you have New Age or Metaphysical book stores in India, they would have them. Otherwise, it is best to do an online google search. FIrst do a search using a close location. If you don’t find them there, do a general search. I know there are tons of sites that would sell them

Sharon asks…

Could read these Tarot cards for my partner ? Thank you for your time?

From the rider & waite Tarot. The celetic cross
1. knight of cups , 2.7 of wands , 3. The Emperor , 4. 6 of swords , 5. The Tower , 6. The Devil , 7. The lovers , 8. The Fool , 9. 3 of pentacles , 10 Page of cups Thank you so much for your time

TarotTrumps answers:

I read from the Thoth deck so the images may vary slightly.

You are represented by the Works card, it is in reference to alchemical work and a time of transition. You are being crossed by the prince of cups he is the Air of Emotion. He is a very focused young man and while he is doing many things at once he is not doing all of them well. He is very close to the water and has not even noticed. The foundation is Adjustment (Justice in your deck) this the Zodical Trump of Libra. It is about balancing Venus earthly and airy natures. Above you is Happiness, it is emotion in abundence. It is Jupiters expansion in Pisces watery nature and they are very happy together. Behind you is the Death card. This is a letting go of old ideas or bad habits. This is Scorpios watery nature and an indicator of change. Since you are being represented by the Work card those two are related. In front of you in the Knight of Wands. This is a card of new beginnings and he is the Fire of Fire. In his hand is the Ace of Wands. He is the creative spark generator. He is focused movement.

The hidden influences are Indolence (8 of Cups). This is also related to the Death card and speaks of mispent or wasted emotional efforts. This is in Saturns restrictive nature and Pisces sense of expansion is just crushed here. Your hidden influence is the Queen of Pents. She is the emotional side of material security. She has a goat representing Capricorn and is surveying the landscape for options. She is representing your drive to make a better material existence for yourself in an emotionally responsible way. Hopes and fears is Sorrow. You are worried that your choices will have left you in a restricted place too far inside your own head. You are concerned about being emotionally lonely due to your thoughts as opposed to actions. The final outcome is the 6 of Disks ( Success). This is a balanced card of material sucess. Whatever your choices are they will end in very materially successful sort of way.

Good luck and enjoy!

Chris asks…

Does anyone know the name of this variety of tarot?

A time ago I saw in www.aeclectic.net a particular kind of tarot that called my attention, it was based on the Rider Waite Tarot, but in this one, you see the cards from behind, for instance you didnt see the face of The Magician, you saw his back… I tried to find it again, but i was unable to… Does anyone knows the name of this tarot???

Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

John asks…

should i keep practicing using my tarot deck?

i bought 2 tarot decks and they are golden tarot & radiant rider-waite tarot deck. i bought the golden tarot becuz i like the images on the cards and i wanted ot learn how to use them, but i found the tarot to be difficult meaning the cards have to many meanings. the rider-waite has meanings but not that many and i found it easy to study then the golden tarot deck. i want to practice hard and be a good tarot reader one day. should i keep practicing.

TarotTrumps answers:

I think you should. You seem to enjoy the activity.

Skeptics can yammer on about tarot not being able to tell the future, but when you’re reading the tarot to yourself you’re conceptualizing the images and meanings of the cards and they are reflecting psychological aspects of your own mind (and hence behavior patterns) that may otherwise have remained unconscious.

And this can give you insights into how your own thoughts and behaviors may shape your future. So it really is a type of prophesying.

Mark asks…

Tarot Card Help~Can I bring them to school?

I have the Rider-Waite tarot deck. I read on a small article that I cannot leave them unattended which I have done so for about 2 days. Can I bring them to school?

TarotTrumps answers:

Psychic here

And tarot friend had the right idea… I really have never heard of a deck you could not leave unattended unless they were talking about you spending a lot of time imprinting on them.

I did want to bring up one fact and that is In the US you have rights that protect you against any form of discrimination especial religious beliefs and this falls in that category… If EVER you are told that you can not have your religious beliefs in school “Get a lawyer”

they can not tell a christian they must leave their bible at home, but I would assume that you should keep them put away in your bag, to keep from causing a distraction and you really do not want others to touch them.

I hope I was able to help in your search for answers

Linda asks…

Can you explain what’s the meaning of this Rider Waite Tarots?

I had did an Tarot reading on the Rider Waite Tarot deck on someones relationship. The Tarots that came out was Three of Wandsm, Five of Swords, Strength, Nine of Swords, Five of Pentacles, King of Pentacles and Seven of Pentacles. Can you explain the meaning of these tarots together? How is the relationship?

TarotTrumps answers:

The 3 of wands talks about having to go that next step in the relationship, the 5 of swords tell me that someone is making another person feel belittled and push around in a way. The strength card is talking about having that courage to face your fears. Next we have the Nine of Sword showing tenseness and sleepless nights. 5 of Pentacles feeling like there is no hope in sight. Then we come to the King of Pentacles, a king take control of his life he does not let other tell him how to rule, this is what must happen to bring balance. The last card show with some work things can get better and turn into something beautiful, but both people have to be on the same page.

Hope that helps

Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Michael asks…

Tantric Dakini Oracle Tarot deck vs Rider-Waite deck?

Each of the 64 cards in the Tantric Dakini Oracle corresponds with the Rider-Waite deck.

Is there an online source ?

Thank you
I have the Rider-Waite deck.

Is there an online source that shows the cards side by side, showing how each card in the decks compare to each other? A chart?

Example:

Rider Waite: Wheel of Fortune

Tantric Dakini Oracle: Wheel of Great Time

I appreciate the helpful answers and hope that someone can elaborate?

Thank you

TarotTrumps answers:

A traditional tarot deck like Rider-Waite has 78 cards. So while I’m not familiar with the Tantric Dakini Oracle deck – seems as though something must be “missing”. They may have drawn inspiration from traditional tarot – but cannot have included the entire deck.

This is only a problem for someone like me – who is so used to reading with the traditional deck that I would be lost using something like angel cards or oracle decks – which often do not have the full 78 cards. However – the readers I know that use those decks feel very comfortable with them, and definately feel they are complete.

If you are wanting to learn traditional – I’d say go with the Rider-Waite – since most sources of learning (books, websites, etc.) use this deck as their basis – so it’s easier to stick to that – not because it’s better – but because it’s “traditional”.

If you are using your own intuition – and not interested in traditional interpretation – go with your own gut instinct and use whatever deck speaks to you. I’ve even seen people pull cards they like from DIFFERENT decks – to create a deck uniquely their own.

Donna asks…

What is a good Oracle deck to begin with i feel like Tarot cards are to advanced and dangerous for me.?

I have a Rider Waite Tarot deck but i feel its to much to temper with for my first deck i got advice to get a Oracle deck but i don’t know which one to start out with please help and thank you in advance

blessed be!

TarotTrumps answers:

Tarot cards are not dangerous. The traditional symbolism of Tarot cards is obviously derived from Christianity. The cards were originally intended to be used for a card game similar to Bridge. People today, especially in continental Europe play actual card games with Tarot cards. There is nothing genuinely occult related about Tarot cards.

Steven asks…

How do i go about giving myself a tarot reading?

I have the Rider-Waite tarot deck? And is it true that an ordinary pack of playing cards can also be used?
Oh, and it’s a reading for love. ( :

TarotTrumps answers:

A lighter? Huh?

I’ve found that when I want to do a reading for myself, it is better to do a reading of whoever else is involved in the situation instead. There is too much of a loss of objectivity in self-reading (but of course I do it all the time). Every reader has a different way of tuning in. Years ago, I found that if got into a calm, open mind state and focused on another person, laid out the cards in a simple spread and jotted down impressions that came to me, I would get remarkably accurate information about that person. I couldn’t exactly “see into the future” but I would learn things about other people and how or why they were going to act in a certain way that I had not way of knowing otherwise.

I never got fancy about my cards. I calmed my mind, got into a meditative state, focused, and shuffled and layed out the cards. It is also a good exercise to layout the cards once in a while and look at them to get a feel for what each card means to you. The Rider Waite deck is an easy deck to use because the pictures tell stories related to the cards. You can read with an ordinary playing deck if you have enough familiarity with the meaning of the cards and your connection with who you are reading is strong enough.

Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Lizzie asks…

Ottawa Tarot: Where to purchase an Original Rider-Waite Tarot deck? Physical location please. No URLs.?

TarotTrumps answers:

Your best bet is to visit a book store.

Barns and Noble, Borders, large chains will probably have a couple decks for sale in their new age & spirituality section. I’d call a couple of these places around and see if they have any in stock. They can have you laying sets tonight!

(i picked myself up a Visconti deck, which is very pretty but sadly doesn’t do much for beginners as the pictures are rather plain and don’t aid in interpretation)

Sharon asks…

Ok! Tarot: just used the Three Fates spread, and Rider Waite Tarot?

1. Three of Swords
2. Nine of Cups
3. The World

This is past, present, future right?
Could anyone interpret this result? Thanks.

TarotTrumps answers:

Yes, the Three Fates spread helps you get insight into the past, present and future regarding a specific issue.

1. Three of Swords (Past): you have experienced heartbreak and grief due to rejection, betrayal or separation
2. Nine of Cups (Present): you are content and satisfied on all levels–physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually
3. The World (Future)–I must add “Future….based on your present course of action”: You will learn your lessons well and will reap the benefits of tasks accomplished–This is a good place to be.

Summary: Although you have experienced pain and suffering in the past, you have moved passed the suffering and are content with your life. If you continue on your present course of action, that contentment will continue and you will be reap the benefits of your lessons learned and tasks accomplished. Way to go!

Bright Blessings

To Sybil the sooth sayer: Well said! I tend to get wordy and over-explain.

Michael asks…

what come in Rider-Waite Tarot deck?

TarotTrumps answers:

Normally a Tarot deck comes with 78 cards and 2 blanks. The 78 cards are the actual Tarot deck, and the 2 blanks can have anything on them. You would normally get a LWB (Little White Book) as well, that should give you a very basic meaning for each card.

Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Jenny asks…

Who likes the Rider Waite Tarot deck?

Do you find Rider Waites to be more
accurate than other Tarot cards?
I also like the pictures
better on Rider Waites as well.
Do you agree?

TarotTrumps answers:

It’s the only deck I use. I like the imagery a lot. I find it much more useful than decks that just show 10 swords on the 10 of Swords card, for example. I used to have another decorative deck (Scarpini perhaps?) after my first Rider Waite was destroyed by rain, but I was totally useless with it. I don’t see myself ever using something other than a Rider Waite.

Chris asks…

How much is a 1935 Rider Waite Tarot deck worth?

say its haunted….lol…..nah…..i am not gonna lie and say it is haunted….although that is very funny….^^

TarotTrumps answers:

Well I can’t find a listing for a deck being published in that year. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t, but how do you know it’s a 1935 Rider Waite? If it really is a unknown publication, it could be worth quite a bit of money. You should contact deck collectors. I’d try some of the older Tarot list on yahoo. Comparative Tarot or Tarot-L. However I’d suggest you do a bit of research 1st to try and figure out what you really have.

Sandra asks…

Which is a better Tarot deck to buy for beginers?Rider Waite,Morgan Greer Or The Thoth?

Are the interpretations of Rider Waite and Morgan Greer are nearly same?

TarotTrumps answers:

You need to find one that appeals to you.

I actually have the Thoth deck because I feel closely tied to the Egyptian pantheon. My first Tarot deck was given as a gift from the one who taught me, and it was a fairy deck. I can use it, but it doesn’t feel right.

Look at the images, and see which deck calls to you the most. The messages in each deck are the same, but the designs may speak to you more from one deck than another, and that can make a difference.

Your Questions About the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck

Michael asks…

Where can I find Rider Waite Tarot in the Philippines?

I only have the Spanish tarot. It is the same as any deck of tarot cards, but it’s just that the Rider-Waite looks more… magical if you may.

The spanish deck is in National Bookstore… Where can I buy the Raider-Waite? How much? gracias

TarotTrumps answers:

I wish I could help, but I don’t know. My best advice would be to find out if Amazon.com or Amazon.uk ships to your part of the world. You could try the Barnes & Noble website, too. I hope this helps.

The Rider-Waite is an excellent deck to learn with, because there are so many books available that feature the Rider-Waite deck.

The designers of the R-W deck, AE Waite and Lady Pamela Coleman-Smith, were both magicians in the Order of the Golden Dawn. That could be one reason it seems so magical.

Waite specified the symbolism for the major arcana and asked the artist and magician, Pamela Coleman-Smith, to do the art. Coleman-Smith came up with the idea to put pictures (instead of just a certain number of each suite symbol—6 cups, 7 swords, etc.) on each of the minor arcana cards. Her genius made the R-W far easier to read and interpret than previous decks, and most tarot decks since then have been based on her idea.

Maria asks…

Are gilded tarot cards and Rider-Waite Tarot cards inter-changeable?

I recently got into doing tarot cards and learned on a gilded deck and I was wandering if I can change over to a Rider-Waite deck and the cards have the same meaning. Also, do they look the similar and have what suit and what the card is like the gilded deck does or no?

TarotTrumps answers:

All tarot decks work the same way. The symbolism just varies from deck to deck, I have never handled a Gilded deck but from what I can see via an internet search, the meanings of each card are going to remain very similar. The artistic rendering is just different.

Any time you buy a new deck, you should spend some time meditating with it and reading the booklet that comes with it. Different decks do read somewhat differently, and that can be an advantage.

When reading at psychic fairs, for example, I used several different decks. I tried to intuitively match the deck to the client, and for me it worked very well. Experiment and see how it works for you.

Ken asks…

Where could I get the Rider-Waite tarot deck off line?

I always been fascinated by them, where chould I get this deck from places in real life in CA for the cheapest price?

TarotTrumps answers:

Hello

You could have a look in your local phone directory for new age shops, etc. I have even found tarot decks at larger health food stores (the kind that also sell gifts, fresh flowers and lots of fresh produce).

Most large chain bookstores carry tarot decks, though they may be kept behind the counter in some stores. Just ask.

A discount bookstore, or one where you have a discount card, such as Borders or Barnes & Noble may have the best off-line price.

Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Sandy asks…

What’s better to start with? An Oracle deck or Rider Waite Tarot deck?

I’ve read that the Oracle is more direct in answers. But as a beginner, what should I start out with learning?

TarotTrumps answers:

I have one of each, but the rider waite seems to be more universally known.

Honestly tho, the deck needs to be something YOU are comfortable with. If you have a chance, look at the cards and the art and all that and get a good feel off of them, and decide which you like more. You should feel almost personally connected to whichever deck you choose

Linda asks…

I’m learning the rider waite tarot deck. What card(s) in the tarot deck mean marriage?

TarotTrumps answers:

Ok pull out your deck,

2 of Cups: A new Relationship a Pair of People just discovering one another and forming a new relationship.

4 of Wands: We see a young couple under a Huppa, celebrating their wedding and their Marriage; outside the context of the relationship reading it can speak to the cementing of any contract or covenant.

6 of Trumps, the Lovers – Today in most decks it speaks more to a Passionate relationship; in the Tarot of Marseilles and decks that follow its lead, we see the young man looking away from his young love, and towards the crone, and this card is more of a warning; that the blush will soon come off the rose of any love.

10 of Cups – A Mature Relationship, this card speaks to events in Emotional Matters.

10 of Pents – A Mature Relationship, this card speaks to matters of Health and Health.

Now as Knights, speaks speak to young persons, and Kings and Queens speak to persons in their 40′s or more. You will find that Kings and Queens together often speak to Husbands – and Wives, Moms and Dads.

Retribution said,
Also 3 of Cups indicates celebration, so can indicate the actual ceremony.

Steven asks…

Faerie Tarot deck closely resembling Rider Waite?

I was thinking of getting Tarot cards with a Faerie them. Are there any similar to Rider Waite? I am familiar with this particular deck so that would help. Or any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

TarotTrumps answers:

There are several Tarot decks and “oracle” decks to choose from, but not all may be what you are expecting. For information on the “Faerie Tarot”, you can go to Aeclectic Tarot.

If this deck by Nathalie Hertz Is what you are referring to, Aeclectic does not show all the cards, just a sampling. Their Major Arcana appears to be in line with Rider-Waite imagery, but not the minor. Since they don’t show the whole deck, I found another of Nathalie Hertz’s decks, Fantastical Tarot, on Tarot.com and they DO show the entire deck. Note that her minor arcana shows mostly the suit and number but not really the same story-like imagery that the Rider-Waite does. I would assume that she has illustrated her two decks similarly, so this may not be the deck you would want. You can see all the Fantastical deck here:

http://www.tarot.com/tarot/decks/index.php?deckID=52

If you go through the various spellings of Fairy, Faerie, etc. On Aeclectic, you can see numerous decks, some obscure, some out-of-print or unavailable, and some that are currently available. I would suggest that you pay close attention to any depictions of the minor arcana in the sample pictures to determine whether or not you can get a feel for the imagery before you buy. Bear in mind that many Pagan or New Age type shops keep sample decks of their stock so that you can view them before purchasing. Llewellyn has a selection of decks to see, as well as US Games.

Four Important Cards in the Major Arcana of a Tarot Deck

Strength from the Rider-Waite deck

Strength card from the Rider-Waite deck

Author: Victor Epand

The card of Strength is not referring to the physical attribute of that characteristic. The strength at work here is of character- the proper control of emotions and desires. This card symbolizes patience, courage, action and determination.

Aspects that are not associated with this card are compassion, nurturing and forgiveness. It is all about control of the self and of the surroundings.

There is a deep seated power here, one that moves softly but victoriously. This state of being is achieved by properly controlling your emotional side with your more rational mental prowess.

If this card appears in a tarot reading, whatever goals you are after can be accomplished if you are willing to be patient. (more…)
