Your Questions About Rider-waite Tarot

Laura asks…

Tarot Cards – Rider Waite – best manual to learn?

I have the tarot cards and the book that comes with them, but it is really hard to decipher. Anyone know of a manual that actually shows photos of each card and interprets each? It is soooooo confusing when I look in this 100 page booklet with no identifying photos, and try and figure out which card is being referred to and how to actually do this!

TarotTrumps answers:

Without a doubt, it’s Waite’s own pictorial guide to the tarot.

The problem with using other books for the Rider-Waite is that they DON’T have Waite’s symbolism down.

Chris asks…

Can someone help me interpret my 10 card Celtic Cross Tarot Spread from The Rider Waite Deck?

Yesterday I had my cards read with The Rider Waite Deck and before I went, I purposely focused on my half sister and wrote the following questions down about her:

1. Is my half sister evil?

2. Will she suffer in THIS world for what she has done?

3. Should I take revenge on my half sister?

The reader did a 10 card Celtic Cross Spread and the following cards came up:

1. The Hanged Man

2. The 2 of Wands (this card was placed in the cross position over The Hanged Man)

3. The Devil, which was placed underneath the 1st two

4. The 9 of Cups (placed to the Left of the crossed cards)

5. 9 of Swords (placed directly above)

6. Knight of Swords Reversed (placed to the Right of the crossed cards)

7. Knight of Wands Reversed

8. 5 of Pentacles

9. The Queen of Cups Reversed

10. The Judgment

Any feedback from experienced tarot readers would be appreciated.

THANKS!
Wow Marina Thank You for your insight. Everything you wrote makes perfect sense. Could the addiction my half sister ‘suffers’ from be jealousy?

TarotTrumps answers:

Your half sister is suffering from some sort of addiction and is also a dark and sinister type person. There is a woman in her life who defends her and does not see the evil of her ways. Judgment in the outcome does indicate that if you have been wronged, justice is assured. Do not take revenge. Move on with your life, and stop believing you are her victim. This is where your thinking makes things go askew.

TarotTrumps answers:

What did you use as her significator? Second, I place no significance on the “reversed” position. The card is the card, and people are not always going to be consistent about how they shuffle and how they lay the cards out.

The Hanged Man represents transformation, often self-discipline. So perhaps your sister is undergoing changes, and will not seem nearly so evil to you in the near future.

The 2 of Wands seems to confirm this. In this context, it seems to represent contemplation, thoughtful self-examination.

The Devil is beneath her; she may indeed have a passionate and selfish nature.

The 9 of cups behind her; she’s getting past greed and self-indulgence.

Knight of swords before her; she’s learning, but it’s not going to be easy.

Knight of wands in the position Self: she has a passionate, willful nature. Clearly, from the rest of the reading, this is a challenge for her to control.

5 of pentacles in her House; poverty or perceived poverty is a limiting factor for her.

Queen of cups in Hopes and Fears; all she really wants is to be loved, but she’s afraid she is not lovable.

Judgment in outcome; insight and self-evaluation will lead to wisdom.

——-

Don’t try to take vengeance on her. Instead, offer to help her in her self-transformation.

The Cups Court Cards of a Tarot Deck

Page of Cups from the Rider-Waite deck.

Author: Victor Epand

The Page of Cups takes on the most imaginative and emotional aspects of childhood. This person lives with their feet floating above the ground so that their head can remain firmly in the clouds.

If the card represents an event in your tarot reading, the event in question will likely have to do with a child—as in a pregnancy. But it can also be the birth of a relationship or new emotional state.

If the card represents another person or a part of you, it is representative of a romantic. Compassion, gentleness, and imagination define this person. They love peace and can’t always handle conflict. There is bravery under their dreamy fadade.

But there is also a moodiness and impracticality that stems from not being connected fully with reality. Under this card, dream big and dare to think the impossible can be possible. (more…)
