A Compressed Story to Tarot Cards and Translating Tarot Cards

The report of tarot cards started around the 15th century, a century after cards were introduced in Europe beginning with the rising municipals in Italy. The evolution of Tarot as we know it present has a array of stories and legends. The mystical superb of tarot cards intrigues historians, academics and spiritualists. Tarot cards were fundamental used as game divisions like regular decks, diverse from what we think of tarot cards today, although a quotation to Tarot as a set of devil cards was made in 1450. The habit of tarot cards started in Egypt, which is the same civilization that championed astrology.

The stylish tarot deck is separated into what is commonly called the major arcana or trump cards and minor arcane or suits of cards. The trump cards or major arcana consist of twenty two cards, every one of without suits. These include the fool, the Magician, the Empress, Justice, the Wheel of Fortune and others. The minor arcana consists of four suits of cards; swords, staves, cups and coins. Present, staves are generally named wands, but rods or batons are seen as well. Coins might be called disks or pentacles in some tarot decks.

Studying a tarot card is easy, as each trump card has a distinct meaning. After all, careful interpretation is needed if one wants to read the meaning from the group of cards. These cards show astrological connections with readings placed under the context of the Octavian Calendar. Tarot cards are considered to readily describe the physical and emotional peculiarities of the subject.

The rich and age-old tradition of tarot translating is constantly expanding through time. The methods of interpreting tarot cards continue to change to catch up with the ideas it is living in. The change in meaning may also contribute to the evolution of the card itself. The essential features of a tarot card nowadays are far variant from what it was previous.

When card readings are conducted face-to-face, the card reader will at intervals ask the querent to shuffle the cards as they concentrate on the question. The querent will from time to time be asked to split the deck into three piles, and then to put the deck back together again. The card reader then lays out the cards in a specific pattern, and each card has a various meaning, depending upon the layout used. For example, the card reader might layout three cards, one to signify the old lang syne, one for the present and one for the outcome: every one of three cards together give a impregnated interpretation of a given situation.

Phone readings are available on the Internet for approximately £5.00 per translating. Perhaps it is significantly cheaper than face to face readings due to the lack of mystique and personal/visual connection with the reader himself. While the days gone by presented interested parties with the option of calling a phone line, the Internet now offers international calls for the same price, and if one is interested, one may acquire a reading through credit card of PayPal.

The well-liked character of phone readings is that the impersonal nature of the transaction weakens the link, although this may also be attributed to the absence of mystique from the service.

Although tarot is labeled something that is as accurate as astrology, there is still a growing tarot service market that is ever increasing through new mediums. Per contra, purists still think that a face to face tarot reading is important. It is also important to note that tarot cards are not purely divinatory devices. They are also used in many countries as cards used for playing. This alone should encourage tarot card users to keep a level head.

Your Questions About Tarot Meanings

John asks…

What are the meanings of the Minor Arcana of Tarot?

I have been studying Tarot for a while now, however, I can’t seem to graps a solid meaning of the Minor Arcana in both Non-reversed or reversed state. I’ve looked at various resources, but they all seem to clash and negate each others meanings. I do know that the minor is not as powerful as the major, if I used the right word. But I would like to know all the meaning of the cards.
Can anyone help me please :)
Thank you for all the advice everyone! It always seems to unclear when I try to read a spread, it always gets foggy when the minors come. I may need to, like you said, meditate on them.
Thing is (lol), I have done that, I’ve been doing for a bit now (I won’t say a while becuase it hasnt been a while), and the only one’s I have been able to are the Four of Cups, Seven of Swords, Eight of Wands, Ace of Pentacles, and the Nine of Cups. I probably need to just get more practice and meditate more on them and it will come to me. I was mainly wondering does it depend on the deck? Do different decks aspire different meanings of the cards? (if these is an ignorant question, please feel free to tell me so!)

TarotTrumps answers:

Certainly.
Minor arcana have modern meanings largely defined by the Golden Dawn. In addition, the Rider Waite deck gives images for the meanings that are fairly accurate.

The problem you are having is that you want a black and white answer. There is none. The images are intended to stimulate your creative and intuitive understanding of the card. Try any book by Gray on the subject, he has a good solid set of meanings. Or, take the course from BOTA. They are good at training in the cards. Mail order courses, but I hear they are excellent.

Your Questions About Minor Arcana

Richard asks…

another tarot card question..?

when would be a good time to start reading my friends cards? I have been just studying the major cards. I know all the Major cards. Do you think that i would be able to read some friends cards? im going to start to learn the minor Arcana now.

TarotTrumps answers:

Not yet. You need both the major arcana and the minor in order to read. If you use only the major arcana, you lose a vital dimension to a reading. It’s a little like using only uppercase letters.

William asks…

Which Tarot deck?

I used to have The Witches Tarot deck but found it very difficult to learn with due to the minor arcana portion being very generic (like a deck of playing cards).

Can anyone recomend a more illustrative deck that I could use to learn the art more easily?

TarotTrumps answers:

I like the Hanson Roberts deck, the Robin Wood Tarot and the Connolly Tarot Deck. Because their imagery works well for my readings. I don’t like the darker cards like Crowley’s Thoth Tarot, but each to their own.

The many different tarot decks available will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question.

You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. Http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html

If you are using Tarot cards as an oracle, you may be more inclined to read card meanings and spreads. But if using Tarot Cards as a tool for Psychic Ability you would be less likely to hold to any hard and fast guide lines. I’m a profession psychic and use Tarot Cards in a random way. In 25 years of professional readings I’ve never used any ‘meanings or spreads’ of tarot cards from any books.

So if you want to develop ‘Psychic Ability’ throw the books and guidelines away and let the images inspire you. But you may need to try the Rider Waite or another imaged deck.

I believe we are all psychic, but for the majority the gift or the belief has been long knocked out of them. Educated out is another way of looking at it. Many professional psychics have grown up in a psychic friendly environment. Perhaps a grand-parent or parent with the knowledge has helped bring the extra sense out in the open and encouraged its use. But there are as many practicing psychics who have not had the benefit of caring psychic guidance and who have still managed to develop and hone this natural extra sense. The Psychic Sense.

To tap in to it more you can go to my free develop-psychic-ability page here: http://www.psychic-junkie.com/develop-psychic-ability.html

But on the other hand, if you want to use the Tarot as an oracle, a form of divination that needs no real ‘psychic ability’, then keep the books and use the meanings and spreads if you prefer.

Donna asks…

Experienced Tarot readers……………..?

I am new to learning about the cards. I have my own “abilities” and have not needed the tarot until now. I am using them to help me focus and get a clearer understanding.
I have started learning about them and did several readings for myself and several for some friends at the moment so that I can familiarize myself with them and connect.
My question is, though, each reading I have done for myself I have noticed that the Major Arcana are the most laid out and I usually have had only one or two of the minor arcana come into play. Is there a reason why the Major Arcana are the most prominent in my readings for myself and not for others? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
Please, no snide remarks, this is part of my belief and if you do not agree then let’s agree to disagree. Thank you.
I know reading for myself is not the most accurate, but this has happened to me off and on most of my life when others have read for me. I was just wondering why the Major rather than the minor? Is there a significance to a Major layout rather than a balanced or minor layout? I guess I should have been more specific.
Mel, those are the exact cards that kept coming up. I have been feeling a great change coming through my “abilities” and feeling from them. I have been worrying about what it is because it is more of a nagging feeling like I need to pay attention to what is about to happen very soon and I can’t tell if it will be very good or very bad but it will be one of the extremes. I hate that constant feeling. Right before solstice I felt it more strongly and it had my senses on alert, but now it seems to be idle but still that weird feeling of what is to come. I may try to re read them tonight since I have done my majority of the reads in the day. See if the calm of the night can make things clearer.

TarotTrumps answers:

Well from what I hear, it means that you are at a turning point in your life. The minor arcana, in my opinion, means minor details. So maybe there is nothing minor right now that needs to be talked about. Another thing it could be is that your guides are trying to point out to you what major arcana card represents you at this time because it will give you great insight as to what you should be focused on right now.

My suggestion is to take out all the major arcana cards and work with them. Once you get a feeling for the message that you are getting, you can confirm it by using the other part of the deck that doesn’t have the major arcana in it.

I read this somewhere in a book on learning to use the tarot but I can’t remember the name of it.

My psychic vibe is that you are drawn to tarot right now for some details and wisdom about your own self exploration and that your guides are helping you to shed some light on your life path…which feels like big changes coming your way to me. Good ones, if you understand why they are happening. That is what the tarot is there for…for you.

I think it would help if you do a layout that has a ‘self’ position in it. I would be very interested to know which one it would be. I am thinking of a few…like The Star, The High Priestess and The Hermit….and the World….and the Sun.

TarotTrumps answers:

I teach Tarot and the way I see it is ..
Whatever you feel comfortable doing is how you should work

It doesn’t matter what method of shuffling the cards we use and it doesn’t matter how we select the cards or how we turn them face up on the table. Our Subconscious Mind is in control and brings to each position in the spread we’re using just the right card to give us the correct answer.

But this happens only if we and our Subconscious Mind are in full agreement as to how the cards will be shuffled, cut, selected and turned. Our Subconscious Mind remembers the definitions and instructions we’ve given it. It never makes a mistake. So, if we follow our own directions, our Subconscious Mind will always give us the correct answer.

Problems arise when we do something different than what we’ve told our Subconscious Mind we were going to do. When we shuffle the cards differently, or cut the cards differently, or select the cards differently, or even turn them differently that what we said we were going to do, we mess up the reading. We get the wrong card in the wrong place at the wrong time and we give our client the wrong information and bad advice.

No problems arise when we do exactly what we said we were going to do. Our Subconscious Mind gives us the right card in the right position at the right time to give our clients the right answers and good advice. The secret to doing good tarot readings has more to do with how well we communicate with our Subconscious Mind and follow our own directions than it has with the definitions we decide to use with our tarot deck. Subconsciousness always follows our directions and never makes a mistake.

One of the best times to communicate with our Subconscious Mind is when our body is in a very calm and peaceful state. If we take the time to write down what we wish to communicate to our Subconscious Mind, then enter a relaxed state and read these things to our Subconscious Mind, our Subconscious Mind will always remember. Now all we have to do is remember what we told our Subconscious Mind.

The Secret to Using Tarot Cards is to:

1. Select a tarot deck you like and respect, the one you want to use
2. Take care of this deck according to the rituals you decide to use
3. Shuffle this deck the way you decide to shuffle it
4. Cut the deck the way you want to cut it (if at all)
5. Use the spreads you want to use
6. Select the cards the way you want to select them
7. Turn the cards over the way you want to turn them over

Make these decisions and then inform your Subconscious Mind of these decisions. Your Subconscious Mind will always remember these instructions and will always follow them until you change the rules by changing these instructions. All you have to do is remember the rules yourself. Writing them down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea.

The Secret of Being a Good Tarot Reader is to:

1. Define the cards the way you want to define them with the key words, phrases or concepts you want to use
2. Tell your Subconscious Mind these definitions
3. Remember what definitions you told your Subconscious Mind
4. Writing them down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea
5. Decide if you’re going to use reversals or whatever
6. Tell your Subconscious Mind these rules and definitions
7. Remembering what you told your Subconscious Mind is a good idea
8. Writing these down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea
9. Practice doing readings as much as you can

A Starter’S Pointer To The Past Events Of Tarot Cards

The statement of tarot cards started around the 15th century, a century after cards were introduced in Europe beginning with the rising cities in Italy. Tarot cards were leading used as game allotments like regular decks, variant from what we think of tarot cards now, although a quotation to Tarot as a set of devil cards was made in 1450. The trump cards or major arcana consist of twenty two cards, every one of without suits. These include the fool, the Magician, the Empress, Justice, the Wheel of Fortune and others. The minor arcana consists of four suits of cards; swords, staves, cups and coins. Nowadays, staves are again and again named wands, but rods or batons are seen as well. Coins might be christened disks or pentacles in some tarot decks. Tarot card interpretations are always changing – and they present also differed significantly through time. Nowadays, but, there are common and general card meanings. For example, minor arcana cards in the main demonstrate an astrological meaning that changes along with the seasons of the year. On another side of things, court cards talk of people and their nature. This nature concerns the physio-emotional traits of a person. More specifically, the determinants of a card’s meaning are the following: Card Number, indispensable Number, Rulership (Astrology), Hebrew Letter, Translation, and Numerical Value. The meaning is also determined by the position of the card, whether it is upright or Ill-lofty/Reversed. The difference between peoples’ readings is the weights they impose on the dissimilar ‘statistics’ and ‘attributes’ of the card. Face to face tarot readings are interactive in a sense that the reader allows the individual to determine which face down card is interpreted by the reader. Face to face readings are commonly found in the ways of numerous divergent places in the English-speaking world. In England, there is a going rate of ?12.50 per human, but the price drastically decreases depending on the number of members of public paying for the service. Some offer the service in the comfort of one’s own home, while some offer it on the street for cheaper rates as well. There is a purist belief that face to face readings are significantly more accurate than additional types of readings these as e-mail readings or phone readings, but indeed the general destiny of these beliefs is to be completely unfounded like all more astrological arguments. You could also show a tarot deciphering done over the phone. If you cannot pinpoint a local human who does tarot readings or would prefer additional discretion, this could be a satisfactory choice. While you should expect a tarot reading over the phone to be rather expensive, do avoid questionable services charging by the minute. There are reputable tarot card readers who provide readings over the phone for a reasonable flat fee. Some might also offer online readings for a pitiful sum, and provide their interpretation of the cards via email. Tarot card divination may not be a real science; it may not be as accurate as some humans would like to believe, but the market for tarot is ever growing through the availability of readings online and in alternative similar mediums. While this is so, there is still a big demand for face-to-face tarot studying because of the mystique and interactivity. A fair judgment of the industry is that it is growing in its diverse aspects – whether it is face to face, on the phone, or by some alternative medium. While society drives itself into a more scientific fortune, the appeal of astrology, especially in tarot cards, is still growing fast.

A Concise Experiences to Tarot Cards and Reading Tarot Cards

Tarot cards consist of twenty-one trump cards, the fool and one extra face card for every other suits in the deck. Miscellaneous areas in Europe use the deck to play games with organized rules, but in English-speaking countries, tarot cards find their utility in the field of fortune telling.

The tarot cards sprung along with other cards in the 14th century. Researchers theorize that they were created in Islamic countries, but the initial actual knowledge in the English-speaking world is the Christian area of Bern, Switzerland. The older tarot cards contained only sixteen trump cards as compared to twenty one in up-to-the-minute decks.

A deck of tarot cards, as they are used today, contains 78 cards, every one of of which contain dissimilar, meaningful symbols which can be interpreted in a number of ways. The deck contains a total of four suits, and the names of the suits may differ depending upon the tarot deck one is using. Repeatedly times, the suits are referred to as wands, cups, swords, and coins, which make up what is called the Minor Arcana. Meanwhile, the Major Arcana consists of twenty two cards, every one of of which are used to signify major events or citizens in a studying.

Tarot card meanings are generally changing – and they demonstrate also changed drastically through time. In the modernized era, howbeit, there are common interpretations for cards. Minor arcana cards, for example, carry with them a widely astrological meaning that varies depending on the time of year. The court cards, on the additional hand, talk of different folk. Their nature ordinarily talks about the physical and emotional characters of these people.

To go into specific cards, their meanings are determined by the following things: Card Number, decisive Number, Rulership (Astrology), Hebrew Letter, Translation, and Numerical Value. The meaning is also determined by the position of the card, whether it is upright or Ill-noble/Reversed. Death (Arcana), for example, means change. Though, an upright Death means change that brings about ‘new life,’ whilst a reversed Death means ‘tender and abrupt change.’

Multitudinous tarot readings are done face to face. You could spot persons who reads tarot cards in your local area by looking online, checking local listings or asking at an occult bookshop. You should come prepared with a question or query much of the time, and might find that while you can gain some valuable insights from a translating, it is more a perceptive tool than a truly esoteric one. Each tarot reader has their own preferences with regard to how they lay out cards and read them; in spite of, you could reasonable expect that a more complex and time consuming translating will be more costly.

Phone readings are available on the Internet for approximately £5.00 per studying. Perhaps it is significantly cheaper than face to face readings due to the lack of mystique and personal/visual connection with the reader himself. While the old lang syne presented interested parties with the option of calling a phone line, the Internet now offers international calls for the same price, and if one is interested, one can acquire a translating through credit card of PayPal.

The accepted report of phone readings is that the impersonal nature of the transaction weakens the link, although this may also be attributed to the absence of mystique from the service.

A Beginner’S Guidebook To The Experiences Of Tarot Cards

The report of tarot cards started around the 15th century, a century after cards were introduced in Europe beginning with the rising towns in Italy. The suits are separated as well. Their points’ worth and specific meanings are determined by being one of Oudlers/Trulls, Kings, Queens, Cavaliers, Jacks, or Others. Oudlers and Kings present the same value; the others from Queens to Jacks are worth one point less than their predecessors. Despite this, the English-speaking world pays more attention to the divinatory meanings of the cards, which will be tackled in the next area. Meaning is assigned to each card in a tarot deck; in spite of, the specifics of interpretation are impacted by the layout of the cards, whether they are upright or reversed, and the interpreter’s own reading. Your Questions About Minor Arcana

James asks…

Tarot Card Reading Help please?

When reading tarot cards, should you always use all suits of the minor arcana. Even if the suit doesn’t pertain to the question asked.

For instance: “Why is there a discrepancy between me and my boyfriend”

Usually the minor arcana set- cups pertains to relationships
Should i just use this suit or include the major arcana suit and the rest of the minor as well?

TarotTrumps answers:

I tend to use them both. The minor arcana can tell you many things too, you just have to know what they are saying. The suit can pertain to something from the question you ask as you don’t know what the answer will be how can you say that all the suits are not going to be relevant? There may be some problems in your relationship which could be signified by a card from the suit of swords or their could be financial gains or difficulties which could be signified by the suit of pentacles/coins. Using all the suits and both major and minor arcana can give you a broader more in depth answer to your question.

Lisa asks…

Tarot readings and the outcome?

Ive asked a question about a career Im pursuing and every time I ask this specific question, victory and triumph is whats ahead of me in “whats in front of you” and “the total outcome”. Now the question was asked in a time frame of 5 years but they re minor arcana. Does that matter? Every time I ask threes maybe a couple of different cards that surround me but the triumph, victory and reward cards always end up in whats in front of me and the outcome (what to expect).

Your Questions About Minor Arcana

Richard asks…

How to read the minor Arcana?

Well, I have the deck in front of me, but how do I use it? Do I just ask myself any random question and pick out any random card? I don’t get it. Someone please help me figure out how to use it?

TarotTrumps answers:

If you have the Rider pack, designed by Arthur Waite, there will be plenty of books around explaining the symbolism used for both the minor and major arcana. Waite himself wrote a couple of books on this, and perhaps you should try to track down these. Much of the symbolism is innate archetypes as described by Carl Jung.

After gaining a thorough knowledge of the depicted symbolism, you should then attempt to develop your own intuition into deeper meaning.

Sharon asks…

Do I need the Minor Arcana?

I have both Major and Minor Arcana cards, but is the Minor Arcana necessary for every reading, or is it possible to just use Major?

TarotTrumps answers:

They aren’t absolutely necessary, no. There is no one way to read cards, historically due to the amount of variation deck to deck. There are lots of people who read with majors alone, and in the old days many cartomancers also read with the minors alone. Fewer cards just tends to limit the degree of the specifics which can be provided to you, but that might suit you.

Your Questions About Tarot

Carol asks…

Tarot..!!!!!?

what do you know about Tarot, and the way to play it, and if it’s real or not??

any way i love Tarot..^_^

TarotTrumps answers:

Hello Moori

The tarot is an ancient means of divination ~ looking into the future.

You do not ‘play’ the tarot you consult them, meditate upon them & build a relationship with them to gain insight, wisdom & from that you can grow & develop.

A deck has 78 cards – 22 called the Major Arcana & 56 Minor Arcana. The major are archityple images & the minor are divided into 4 suits.

The tarot are a tool into the subconsious & the images are designed to interact at such a level, they are a stepping stone into your intuition.

You consult the tarot by laying them in a ‘spread’ which gives the cards layed set positions or you can take a single card & meditate on it.

You can read the tarot in 3 ways
~ As a tarologist ~ the cards literal/traditional meanings only
~ Intuitivly ~ as above, but intuition is followed first.
~ Psychically ~ using the card simply as a tool to open the self to spirit.

In Peace

TarotTrumps answers:

In choosing the deck its best to pick one you have an affinity for. Go to a bookstore that has several decks on display or look at the images you find on google of popular card decks.
If any image makes you react with a smile or any kind of positive feeling than the deck it came from should work for you. Avoid the crowley set, its skewed strongly to the darker sides which makes it a difficult deck to work with.

Mandy asks…

I want to publish a tarot deck based on the life of a famous dead person. How can I do this legally?

I want to publish a tarot deck and it’s corresponding instructional book based on the life of a famous dead person. Each tarot card would include illustrations of that famous person and their life history as it corresponds to the symbolism of the tarot. However, the illustrations would in no way identify the person or the people they knew when they were alive. However the written interpretations of the cards could lead to their identity. Any information used to discuss this famous dead person would be taken from the public record (newspapers, bios). How can I avoid breaking copyright law?

TarotTrumps answers:

As long as you do not use any images or phrases that other people have created, you are pretty safe.
For example; if you use a photo that someone took as part of the cards imagery, you are breaking the copyright.
If you draw the picture yourself as you see it in your head, you are OK.
If you quote an article, you break copyright.
If you take all the information you have found from multiple sources and put it into your own words, you are OK.
