Always on the lookout for tarot in games and fiction, I still almost overlooked the importance of tarot in the Cassie Palmer series of action-metaphysics-romance novels—emphasis on action and fantasy.

So much happens so fast in these well-written books that you may not at first notice the importance of the heroine’s enchanted tarot deck.

From the context it sounds like either a standard Rider-Waite deck or set of major arcana only. When someone opens the box and asks a question, one or more cards slide out and begin reciting their meanings.

Cassie Palmer Novels

The heroine, Cassandra Palmer, is a major clairvoyant who sees vivid visions of catastrophic events. She considers her tarot deck a sort of toy, but it is a cherished gift from a friend now deceased.

The tarot deck is the one possession she has held onto even through years of running for her life. Gradually you realize that the cards’ messages foreshadow everything that happens in the books.

I highly recommend the novels, which feature time-travel, vampires, war mages, Greek deities, demons, and more. Sounds crazy, but it’s all very logical and real when you’re reading.

These are action-packed novels, and the fantasy is anchored in realistic settings. The books are fast-pased, easy to read, and thought-provoking. They are also laugh-out-loud funny in places. Best of all, the characters are deftly drawn and (in some cases hauntingly) real.

Warning: There is sex and violence, and these books are not written for kids under 18 years old or anyone with a truly weak stomach. The violent scenes are gritty and realistic, but they are not sadistic. That is, the author does not dwell on the violent parts; they are just part of the story. So most adults will have no problems unless they only like very light, fluffy fantasy.

The Cassie Palmer novels, in order, are

The author, Karen Chance, also has an entertaining web site, where she gives away free downloads of some stories and novellas that fit in between the novels. The art is interesting, too, and includes cover paintings for the freebie stories.

Dante’s Tarot

Best of all for tarot lovers, you can freely download a specially designed tarot deck based on Greek mythology, called Dante’s Tarot. You’ll find it in the Clairvoyant Corner section. There’s a link to download it at the bottom of the page.

A really good, experienced tarot reader can read almost anywhere, even under fairly noisy, distracting conditions, such as at a psychic fair. But if you do a lot of readings, you also know how much more tiring it is to work under such conditions. And have you thought about your clients’ experience?

If you do tarot readings at home, you may have a place set aside for readings, or you may use the dining room table. The point is, the surroundings at home are so familiar to you that you may no longer notice some things that make the experience less than pleasant for tarot clients. For example, pet odor or stains on upholstery or carpet.

Periodically having your house or apartment steam cleaned is a great way to keep it fresh not only for you, your family, and social guests to enjoy, but also to provide a more pleasant experience for your tarot clients. If you have pets, you may still need to keep special pet odor removal products on hand.

In central Texas you can get help for keeping your home tarot reading area clean and fresh. You can use pet odor removal products. And in the Austin area you can let a pet stain and odor removal service austin take care of the problem for you.

Making your tarot reading environment more pleasant for clients will bring in more repeat business, and that’s good for you and your clients, most of whom are looking for a soothing and nurturing experience as well as an enlightening one.

Well, this is a good card if you love another and want a long relationship together with them. It also indicates some reconciliation so if you two have been at odds, those times are coming to an end. So congratulations, if you want a long term relationship with someone you love, you got it. Whether that is good or bad is not for us to know right now.

New Tarot deck advice?

I was thinking about getting the ‘Gilded Tarot‘ deck because I REALLY like the artwork. In your opinion, how accurate is it?

TarotTrumps answers:

I have read tarot for years and i had the problem of half trained people coming to me for readings and trying to figure it out by themselves and having different interpretations on the cards. I stopped this by getting an egyptian deck,no one knows what the cards are. It took a while to get to know the deck but it speaks beautifully to me. The pictures are really only there to distract the client, and to open up the part of the brain that is curios. I find clients are totally bedazzled by the graphics of my cards even tough they are almost abstract. I am sure you will find a deck soon that will suit you, but try to get over what it looks like, be more inclined to find one that feels right. Its not the pictures that are accurate. Itsthe user. Have fun and keep exploring.

TarotTrumps answers:

Tarot was originally used for card games in the 1400s. Playing cards were also evolved from these games (take out the major arcana and combine the page and knight into a jack and you got the modern playing deck). Occult purposes came later and was first mentioned in 1781.

Tarot card reading…already have the spread, card, & meaning laid out. Can someone give me an indepth reading?

I did a Past Life spread and have some questions.
I tend to scribble notes down of what the card means as I go, so I’ll just put that down as well.
But I wish that someone could and would explain this more. I know I can go and look up in depth meanings of each card, but the cards are all connected. I hope someone can connect them for me.

1. Basic soul nature coming into this past life.
Queen of Swords Reversed
maintain mental balance and you will know the truth. Clarity and focus even amidst doubt, distraction, and confusion.

2. Environment.
Ace of cups
sign of new beginnings

3. Early years.
9 of Wands Reversed
extreme difficulty or stress to contend with

4. Education.
Knight of Cups Reversed
experiencing a negative reaction to the increased demands of the world upon you; passive person being pushed towards action or commitment and you do not like it; slow emotional growth or developing too fast.

5. Accomplishments.
Knight of Swords
events happening quickly/out of the blue. Risk of chaos unless someone is there to take control

6. Occupation.
The Hierophant
is deeply connected spiritually to know how we find the meaning of life. Awareness of other dimension to life; a realization we are all bound to one another in some sense.–Spiritual advisor, teacher.

7. Social status.
Page of Swords Reversed
acting without thinking; letting immediate desires seduce; overly dependent; exaggerated emotional outbursts

8. Relationships.
3 or Swords
attack of the blues, a bitter disappointment, or a setback. At worst, a heartbreak, pain and suffering caused by someone that has wounded you deeply.

9. Family life.
2 of Wands
Choices, dilemmas, or union. Choices between staying put or moving on.

10. Death.
Page of Pentacles
beginning of a new project or enterprise …..?

11. Lessons learned during this past life #1.
Ace of Swords
realizing ambition is clearly destined for success. may still be in embryonic stages.

12. Lessons learned during this past life #2.
5 of Swords
Walk away from destructive situations, as you are most certainly fighting a losing battle.

13. How this past life affects querent’s current life #1.
Death
Transition of life [I'm really not sure of this one.]

14. How this past life affects querent’s current life #2.
5 of Cups
much deeper narrowing pain. [I also am not completely sure about this]

It sounds like this past life of mine had it a little rough. Is that why I got the 5 of Cups for the 14th card?
Also, I’m not sure if the Death card is just straight forward or if it means a transition of life.

There are some similarities in my past life that have not changed. In the Page of Swords, I act without thinking a lot. But how is that under social status? [#7]

Also, the Knight of Cups Reversed for Education.I tend to push against society and what it excepts of me…But sometimes I feel myself becoming passive about all of it…and life. So my soul has always been resistant to the demands of the world? Am I supposed to change that? [#4]

The Hierophant for occupation. As a Taoist, does this mean I was spiritually aware then? Did I carry some of the same belief then? Does that all in a sense mean I could be closer to enlightenment if my soul is aware? [6]

Just, if someone can go in depth and explain each card and what it means when next to the next card.
It would be greatly appreciated.

There are several different types of Celtic Cross spreads that’s why you’re finding so many different meanings to each position. I personally don’t like to use the CC spread but I think its a good spread to at know because sometimes its the perfect spread for a question.
Here is a basic positional meaning I’m sorry I don’t know an 11 card spread just 10 cards.
1- description of the present situation
2- further description
3- basis of the situation
4-past influence
5- public image or how the situation appears
6-immediate future
7- destiny of the situation
8-relationships
9-hopes and fears
10-final outcome

I would just find one cc spread position that I like and can memorize and stick with those meanings you don’t have to use the one I shared with you. Like I said everyone has a different positional meaning for the cards so find the one you feel comfortable with and go from there.

Astrology and Tarot What One Are You?

Someone recently asked me since i do tarot cards to list what cards would indicate what sign in a card spread. I know there are many different varriations like for instance the major arcana and the court cards
I have come up with this explination also backed by two different web sites. I am only going based on major arcana NOT court cards (court cards are usually the ones representing the astrological signs but they goes based on decans not actual months)

Aries- The Emperor Card
Taurus-Hierophant Card
Gemini- The Lovers Card
Cancer- Chariot Card
Leo- Strength Card
Virgo- Hermit Card
Libra- Justice Card
Scorpio- Death Card
Sagittarius- Temperance Card
Capricorn- Devil Card
Aquarius- Star Card
Pisces- Moon Card

http://supertarot.co.uk/astrology/attributions.htm – this website has decan days for the major arcana and court cards as well as minor arcana

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/meanings/pages.shtml -explains it all as well with out the court cards.

Just wanted to post so next time someone asked me i could redirect tell me what card you are and your sign

TarotTrumps answers:

My significator is the Queen of Coins if I’m asking a question about material things. (Sun, Mercury, and Venus in Capricorn)
If I am asking a question about love or relationships, my signification is the Queen of Cups. (Mars and Ascendant in Pisces)

My life path number is 9, and relates to the Strength card. So when I draw the strength card, I know the cards are talking about me personally.

The cards you listed are often associated with the energies of the signs you noted, but they are not to be associated with the person themselves. The court cards are usually significators, and the Major Arcane are the major events in the life line.

Okay I have to write a short story for school and the story involves tarot cards. You can shuffle, mix them up, cut them however you want, throw them. You don’t have to do something different for each spread.

Can I use tarot spreads for cartomancy?

I want to learn cartomancy. i dont know how to do it. is there spreads like tarot? do you use tarot spreads? also can i have a link to a site with the meanings of the cards? or are the meanings the same as the tarot minor arcana, if so please tell me the corresponding suit.

TarotTrumps answers:

You can definitely use tarot spreads for readings with regular playing cards. But there are spreads that have been developed for cartomancy. There are different techniques. Some use all 52 cards, others, like the Lenormand system use only 36. I found Secondhand-Souls-4occult.com by just doing a search on cartomancy. It has some basic info using all 52 cards and spreads.

I like Mlle. Lenormand’s Fortune Telling site (see link below) for learning some basics about Lenormand Oracle cards and their meanings. Although you can buy a deck with special pictures on it to help you remember the meanings, you can just use a regular playing deck and just remove the cards that are not used.

I wasn’t able to learn all I wanted from the Internet so I got “Fortune-Telling with Playing Cards” by Jonathan Dee, from the library. It gave me enough info to figure out what kind of cartomancy I wanted to learn more about. Plus it has meanings for the cards and suits as well as different spreads used with different card reading systems.

The meanings of the suits are not exactly the same as tarot. You can just read them as the same (Clubs=Wands; Spades=Swords; Hearts=Cups; Diamond=Pentacles) as long as you are consistent. That way your subconscious (or whatever you believe you’re working with when reading cards) knows what the symbols mean to you.

I read from the Thoth deck so the images may vary slightly.

You are represented by the Works card, it is in reference to alchemical work and a time of transition. You are being crossed by the prince of cups he is the Air of Emotion. He is a very focused young man and while he is doing many things at once he is not doing all of them well. He is very close to the water and has not even noticed. The foundation is Adjustment (Justice in your deck) this the Zodical Trump of Libra. It is about balancing Venus earthly and airy natures. Above you is Happiness, it is emotion in abundence. It is Jupiters expansion in Pisces watery nature and they are very happy together. Behind you is the Death card. This is a letting go of old ideas or bad habits. This is Scorpios watery nature and an indicator of change. Since you are being represented by the Work card those two are related. In front of you in the Knight of Wands. This is a card of new beginnings and he is the Fire of Fire. In his hand is the Ace of Wands. He is the creative spark generator. He is focused movement.

The hidden influences are Indolence (8 of Cups). This is also related to the Death card and speaks of mispent or wasted emotional efforts. This is in Saturns restrictive nature and Pisces sense of expansion is just crushed here. Your hidden influence is the Queen of Pents. She is the emotional side of material security. She has a goat representing Capricorn and is surveying the landscape for options. She is representing your drive to make a better material existence for yourself in an emotionally responsible way. Hopes and fears is Sorrow. You are worried that your choices will have left you in a restricted place too far inside your own head. You are concerned about being emotionally lonely due to your thoughts as opposed to actions. The final outcome is the 6 of Disks ( Success). This is a balanced card of material sucess. Whatever your choices are they will end in very materially successful sort of way.

Good luck and enjoy!

TarotTrumps answers:

Well, no, the Queen of France didn’t invent it. There are a lot of stories about the origin of tarot cards but here’s the account given by the historians. Tarot was invented in mid 15th Italy for the Milanese court. It consists of two parts: a standard pack of Latin suited playing cards (that occultists call the Minor Arcana) and a fifth suit of picture cards (that occultists call the Major Arcana). These extra cards took as their theme a triumph procession, hence their early name of trionfi, meaning triumphs and from which we get our word trump! And this is what there were, a suit of fixed trump cards for use in a family of games that continues to be played throughout continental Europe today.

It was not until the end of the 18th century that a Parisian occultist published the claim that they came from Ancient Egypt and contained the secrets and wisdom of Egypt’s priests. He also published the first account of how to use the cards in divination. During the 19th century, a number of French occultists expanded these beliefs, claiming that the trumps corresponded to the paths of the Tree of Life. At the end of the 19th century, a group of British occultists introduced tarot to the English speaking world, integrating the cards into their magic system. This group was called the Order of the Golden Dawn and some of its members heavily redesigned the cards to create the type of occult packs that you will be familiar with today.

Help me develop supernatural powers based on the Major Arcana for a story I’m making?

The Hanged Man’s powers should be cancelling kinetic energies, since the Hanged Man card deals with stagnation and limbo.
I’d say use each card’s meaning to base the hero/heroine’s powers on. Some examples:
High Priestess – Secrets to be revealed – telepath/empath
Heirophant – False fronts – shapeshifter
Temperance – Patience/Mercy – disabled genius that created/maintains the
Tower – base of operations.

Good luck.
